Virginia Dare Day 2015!

The Lost Colony & National Park Service, along with the Elizabethan Gardens cordially invite you to the 2015 Virginia Dare Faire, sponsored by Yadkin Bank. Celebrate the 428th birthday of Virginia Dare, Tuesday, August 18th, with events all day at Ft. Raleigh National Park! Virginia Dare Faire will be held at outside of the Lost Colony Administration Building from 10am-1pm.

Virginia Dare Day 2015!Activities for Virginia Dare Faire are free of charge and open to children of all ages, guaranteeing fun for the whole family! Events will vary from field games, to creating coil pots with Native Americans. Carnival-like activities including balloon animals, coloring, face painting, and bubble stations will be open all morning. Field games like Sir Walter’s potato toss, hula hoop activities, sack races, and archery stations are also a small sampling of the day’s happenings. Other entertainment will include street dancers, royal etiquette and photo opportunities with Queen Elizabeth, a fight demo at 12:00pm, and special appearances from characters of The Lost Colony. There will be birthday cake provided to the public closing the Faire events.

August 18th also marks the closing week of How I Became a Pirate, The Lost Colony’s 2015 children’s production. Tickets being sold during Virginia Dare Faire. Meet Captain Braid Beard and Sharktooth the Pirate before the performance at Virginia Dare Faire while enjoying the birthday festivities. How I Became a Pirate is performed every Tuesday & Wednesday at 2pm in the Sound Stage Theatre, doors open at 1:30pm!

Following Virginia Dare Faire and How I Became a Pirate, the evening’s performance of The Lost Colony features live babies in the role of Virginia Dare.  This year’s Virginia Dare babies will be added to a long list of dignified alumni who participated in the historic drama at a very early age. This yearly tradition has become a much anticipated event on the Outer Banks.

Virginia Dare Babies Announced!

Virginia Dare is one of the most influential historical figures to Roanoke Island. In celebration of her 428th birthday, The Lost Colony continues its beloved tradition of casting local infants in the performance. Traditionally, on August 18th, five babies perform throughout evening appearing in different scenes. Teachers, policemen, ministers, town officials, politicians, fishermen and businessmen have all been on stage as the first English child born in the new world. This year because an overwhelming amount of babies, The Lost Colony is excited to announce that the Virginia Dare celebration will continue to the next evening, August 19th, in which there will also be 6 infants in the production. Virginia Dare Day events are made possible with the help from event sponsor, Yadkin Bank.

On August 18th, The Lost Colony is extremely proud to feature: Maya Emily White (12 months) daughter of Owen and Amy White of Kill Devil Hills, NC, as the Prologue Baby; Carolyn Gore (3 weeks) daughter of Terry and Kathryn Gore of Manteo, NC , as the Christening Baby; Lily Gwen Martin (2 months) daughter of Lee and Tiffany Martin of Wanchese, NC as the Lullaby Baby; Robbie Jenkins (2.5 months) son of Rob and Chelsea Jenkins of Kill Devil Hills, NC, as the Final Assembly Baby; and Harper Cohill  (9.5 months) daughter of Alex and Emily Cohill of Nags Head, NC, as the Final March Baby.

On August 19th, the second night of Virginia Dare Babies The Lost Colony welcomes: Gemma Annaleise Coletta Estrada (13 months) daughter of Luis and Amanda Estrada of Manteo, NC, as the Prologue Baby; Skyler Lee Owens (7 months) daughter of Katrina Owens of Kill Devil Hills, NC, as Prologue Act II Baby; Harper Durocher (daughter of Robert and Kristin Durocher of Manteo, NC, as the Christening Baby; Chloe Pearl Cox (4 months) daughter of Andrew and Lisa Cox of Holly Springs, NC, as the Lullaby Baby; Maggie Parker (5 months) daughter of John and Ann-Marie Parker of Southern Shores, NC, as the Final Assembly Baby; and Tilley Joe Faith Fagley daughter of Charlena Fagley of Manns Harbor, NC, as the Final March Baby.

The 2015 Virginia Dare babies will be added to a long list of dignified alumni who participated in the historic drama at a very early age. Many of them will go on to serve the show and their community in the years to come just as their parents and grandparents have before them.

On August 18th citizens of Roanoke Island will celebrate the 428th anniversary of the birth of Virginia Dare. The day will begin with a special “Virginia Dare Faire” on the grounds surrounding The Lost Colony Building. Games and activities will be provided, free to the public, from 10am-1pm by cast members of The Lost Colony & National Park Service along with the Elizabethan Gardens. That following evening, as well as on August 19th, the babies will make their debut on stage as Virginia Dare.
