Attention: auditions and production staff application deadlines for the 2012 production have passed but you can use the 2012 information below to begin preparing your application material for the 2013 production! Details for 2013 will be posted after the 2012 production is complete.

Electronic/Video Auditions are now being accepted!  If you are unable to attend one of The Lost Colony’s scheduled auditions posted on the website an electronic or video submission will be accepted for review.  Acceptable formats include DVD and web hosted videos such as “YouTube” or personal websites.  This audition should be submitted by email beginning January 1, 2012.  Deadline for video audition submissions is February 20, 2012.  An in-person meeting/audition may be required before final casting decision can be made.  Video submissions should include a classical monologue, a contemporary monologue, and at least 16-bars of a traditional musical theatre song, preferably a ballad.   Dancers may submit a separate video dance audition.  Don’t forget to send a current headshot and resume with your submission!  Send your submission to lculpepper@thelostcolony.org, Subject: 2012 Audition

Production Staff Submissions  If you are a stage manager, artisan, or technician you may submit your resume along with a cover letter expressing the position that you would like to hold within our company. Seeking Assistant Theatre Manager

The Lost Colony is a non-profit, professional outdoor drama now celebrating its 74th production season. Produced by the Roanoke Island Historical Association (RIHA), the organization has a $2 million annual budget. We are seeking a junior level, experienced person to work with and report to the Theatre Manager, responsible for the box office and all other front of house operations including house management, usher personnel, merchandise and concession sales. The primary production for which these services are rendered is The Lost Colony as performed in the Waterside Theatre in Manteo, NC.

Responsibilities May Include:

Box Office:

  • Assists in Training box office employees in all aspects of ticket selling, including web sales, phone sales and walk up sales
  • Assist in training personnel to provide excellent customer service
  • May be responsible for daily sales reports and deposits
  • Helps to Prepare all box office reports for management and accounting
  • Leads the group sales efforts of the organization during the season
  • Analyzes sales data and customer input and communicates important issues or opportunities to other senior staff

Front of House:

  • Assists in managing the theatre’s entire operation from the front edge of the stage to the parking lots. Supervises the house staff in the coordination with the Theatre Manager who is in charge of the theatre operation.
  • Assists in managing all front of house personnel including house managers, ushers and volunteers.
  • Develops and implements effective customer service training for front of house employees with the expectation of providing superior customer service
  • With the Stage Manager and Theatre Manager, coordinates the timing for the start of the show and intermission(s) and the activities of front of house with the playing of the show.
  • Prepares and supervises the implementation of audience safety programs and conducts emergency preparedness training and drills for all front of house personnel
  • In the absence of the Theatre Manager is responsible for deciding whether to pause or cancel the progress of the production due to rain or any emergency which would jeopardize the safety of the audience or the theatre company. Has the authority to order the theatre to be evacuated for safety concerns.
  • Deals with customer problems with the goal of seeking their resolution, while holding the authority to eject customers whose behavior is interfering with the show or jeopardizing others in the audience or on the stage.

Concessions and Merchandise:

  • Supervises all theatre vendors, concessionaires and staff and coordinates their activities with the playing of the show
  • Checks all financial reports provided by these parties and conducts periodic spot checks and inventory checks to insure fair and reputable dealing
  • Observes customer service provided in these areas and ensures that it is being provided at a high level.

Position runs from May 21 through August 24. Pay is $300 per week plus housing. Interested applicants should send cover letter and resume to:
