2016’s Virginia Dare Faire scheduled for Thursday, August 18th

The Lost Colony and National Park Service cordially invite you to the 2016 Virginia Dare Faire, sponsored by Yadkin Bank. Celebrate the 429th birthday of Virginia Dare, Thursday, August 18th, with events all day at Fort Raleigh National Park! Virginia Dare Faire will be held at outside of The Lost Colony Administration Building from 10am-1pm.

Activities for Virginia Dare Faire are free of charge and open to children of all ages, guaranteeing fun for the whole family! Events will vary from field games, to creating clay pots with Native Americans. Carnival-like activities including balloon animals, coloring, face painting, and bubble stations will be open all morning. Field games like Sir Walter’s potato toss, hula hoop activities, sack races, and archery stations are also a small sampling of the day’s happenings. Other entertainment will include street dancers, royal etiquette and photo opportunities with Queen Elizabeth, a fight demo at 12:00pm, and special appearances from characters of The Lost Colony. There will be birthday cake provided to the public closing the Faire events. Virginia Dare’s birthday cake will be provided by Harris Teeter. Virginia Dare’s birthday ice cream will be provided by Maola.

The evening’s performance of The Lost Colony features live babies in the role of Virginia Dare.  This year’s Virginia Dare babies will be added to a long list of dignified alumni who participated in the historic drama at a very early age. This yearly tradition has become a much anticipated event on the Outer Banks.

Yadkin Bank is the proud sponsor of the 2016 Virginia Dare Faire and Virginia Dare Night festivities.
