More Than Just A Show.

Your donation to the Roanoke Island Historical Association goes much farther than a simple donation to a short-lived theatrical production. Your donation touches lives, both new and old. Below are just a few of the things that your donation supports.

• Your Membership supports the annual production of The Lost Colony. The Longest Running Outdoor Symphonic Drama in America, The Lost Colony tells the story of the first attempt at English colonization in America. Featuring a cast and crew of over 100 people every summer, the production features stunning costumes, haunting dances, and a timeless story of hope and determination. The Tony-Award-Winning The Lost Colony is a staple of American Theatre and North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
• Your Membership supports the ability of the Roanoke Island Historical Association to provide aspiring artists a space to hone their craft . Since 1937, over 5,000 actors and technicians have spent a summer on Roanoke Island, and The Lost Colony is an essential training ground for these young artists. For many, The Lost Colony is their first professional theatre contract and many of our Company Members have gone on to have successful careers on Broadway, film, and television.
• Your Membership supports educational programming and workshops surrounding the Roanoke Colony, theatre education, and Native American culture. The Roanoke Island Historical Association has had the privilege of hosting Theatre Arts Camps, Children’s Shows, and Native American Cultural presentations that have enriched the lives of thousands of children. Your support ensures that we can continue to grow these programs.
• Your Membership helps sustain the economic health and tourism of Dare County. An anchor of tourism for the Outer Banks, The Lost Colony was one of the very first tourist attractions in Dare County and continues to be a draw for hundreds of thousands of tourists every year that specifically impacts Roanoke Island. Company Members of The Lost Colony also frequently take second jobs around the Outer Banks during the summer and some local businesses have grown to depend on this seasonal help during the busy summer months.
