PNC Bank is the Presenting Sponsor for The Lost Colony’s 80th Anniversary Season
The Roanoke Island Historical Association is pleased to announce PNC Bank as the Presenting Sponsor of its 80th Anniversary Season production of The Lost Colony. This is a pioneer role for The Lost Colony, as the production has never named a Presenting Sponsor since opening eight decades ago. Bill Coleman, CEO of the Roanoke Island Historical Association, “We are honored and excited that PNC has chosen to dedicate its philanthropic resources to the production.” The Lost Colony is the longest running outdoor symphonic drama in the nation and the only outdoor drama to have received a Tony Honor for Excellence in Theatre. PNC’s sponsorship recognizes the historical significance of the Lost Colony story and the economic, educational and cultural impact the production has had within the community and through-out the State of North Carolina.
Pictured above, Jim Hansen, PNC Regional President, discusses why PNC is Presenting Sponsor for its 80th Anniversary Season, stating, “This season promises to once again showcase the mystery and drama that is The Lost Colony. We invite everyone to enjoy.”
In 1937, when The Lost Colony debuted, the production focused the attention of the nation on the significant events in early colonial history that occurred on Roanoke Island. That year the production was attended by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor. The story of the 1587 colony and its well published disappearance is now known across the globe. It is the mission of the Roanoke Island Historical Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, to continue to preserve and educate about the 1587 colony mainly through the production of Paul Green’s The Lost Colony. RIHA is supported by memberships, corporate sponsorships, grants from the North Carolina Arts Council and private foundations, fundraising events and the dreams and efforts of its community residents and business leaders. The Roanoke Island Historical Association is very grateful to PNC Bank for its dedication to strengthening its communities with both time and resources, and for its sponsorship this season.
Additionally, for the last three years PNC Bank has supported The Lost Colony Kids 5-and-under Ticket for free admittance to The Lost Colony performance. PNC’s Grow Up Great initiative supports early childhood programs that help prepare children from birth to age 5 for success in school and life. To date, the Grow Up Great program has served more than 2.5 million children. The PNC Kids 5-and-under Ticket allows families with young children to more affordably attend The Lost Colony thereby giving young children the opportunity to learn about music, dance and theatre as they develop the social and cognitive skills needed for long-term learning.
